Used Fishing Kayaks for Sale
If you are an amateur angler, it would make no sense to spend fortunes on a top-notch kayak. While a professional one may cost upwards of $1,200, you can get used fishing kayaks for sale for as little as a couple of hundreds.
Be sure, however, to inspect the boat’s current condition: just because the owner hasn’t used it a lot, it doesn’t necessarily mean the kayak is in perfect standing. And while you can easily fix some small cosmetic issues like exfoliated paint, certain storage conditions like overexposure to sunlight or humidity can permanently damage the structure of a kayak.
Cheap Fishing Kayaks for Sale
If you are looking for the cheapest fishing kayaks for sale (and who isn’t?) your best try would be a major online store. Amazon is among the most trustworthy fishing equipment retailers, with thousands of kayaks in stock. Their wide range of choices may be daunting – depending on your needs and budget, prices range from $50 to over $1,200, so make sure you analyze your needs properly and don’t get more than you need.
Best Fishing Kayaks
When shopping for fishing kayaks, whether new or used, the topmost criteria to look after are the best boating function and the best customized features that meet your own needs. A good boat should keep you safe but also make you feel comfortable while using it. Also decide where you will be fishing – close to the docks, on moving rivers, lakes or fresh waters – and choose a boat that can handle it. If you also plan on inviting friends or family to fish with you, choose a bigger kayak.
Transporting Your Fishing Kayak
If you a used fishing kayak, transportation may be a sensitive issue. There are two risks associated:
- The kayak may not be in the best condition, even if you have inspected it thoroughly and think that everything is alright. Some hull damages are quite hard to notice, even by professionals. If the owner left it outside in the sun for too long, the plastic might also have suffered sun damage. Still, if the seller has had it repainted, it will look as good as new.
- Your new boat may be damaged at some point during transport. Even the most reputable carriers may at some point damage your kayak – I, for one, have seen professionally transported kayaks with some serious scratches and dents.
Before you sign the contract and accept that the merchandise is in good condition, you should unwrap the kayak and closely inspect everything. Document every minor scratch and have the transporter agree that those were the only unconformities. Failing to do so will make it extremely hard to file in a valid damage claim. Shipping and handling within the country should cost between $100 and $200, and a higher price doesn’t necessarily mean a better quality.
